Read Vauxhall articles Vauxhall Motors, a subsidiary of General Motors Corporation, started in Vauxhall in 1857. Initially the company was known for its sports cars, but at the end of the first World War Vauxhall started to take a more conservative approach to its models. GM bought the company in 1925. Manufacturing was put on hold during World War II in order for Vauxhall to design and produce the famous Churchill tank. During the 70s, Vauxhall's most popular model, the Victor, was being shown up by the Ford Cortina. Vauxhall responded with the Astra and the Mk2 Cavalier, with the latter particularly helping to bolster Vauxhall's fortunes and reputation. In 1993 the Corsa was introduced and immediately attracted strong sales. Vauxhall continues to enjoy large sales, with the Corsa and fifth-geneartion Astra leading the charge. |
