The Rover 100, known as the Rover Metro until 1994, was produced from 1980, selling over 2 million vehicles during its lifespan. The Rover 100 was a very popular car in the UK. It was the perfect entry-level vehicle - it was cheap to insure, the running costs were low and it had decent fuel economy.
However, as time went on and other companies started to produce their own supermini-class cars, the Rover 100's limitations become all too clear. The Rover 100 suffered from poor safety ratings. Not only did this cause problems, but other cars in the same class – the Polo and Corse, for example – seemed a generation ahead in terms of overall quality. In 1998, The Rover 100's 18-year lifetime came to an end. |
