The Peugeot 206, first manufactured in 1998, was the result of Peugeot hurriedly replacing the 205 to compete with Ford's Fiesta and VW's Polo, the high sales of which Peugeot had not expected. Seeing no future in the supermini class, Peugeot had originally planned to phase the 205 out and expected future customers to choose between the 106 or 306, depending on which size of car they were interested in. Despite the 206 being manufactured as a necessity to plug a market gap, the 206 went on to become Peugeot's best-selling car of all time, with 2005 marking the year of 5 million 206s leaving the factory. Much of the Peugeot 206's success can be put down to its handling, reliability and entry-level cost. It's also practical and looks good, too. |
