The SLK is Mercedez-Benz's roadster. The SLK first hit the road in 1997, and immediately won people over with its stylish, sporty looks and undemanding handling. Along with the Mitsubishi 3000 GT Spyder, it was also one of the first two-seater sports car that came with a folding metal hard top, an idea that other companies caught onto quickly. The 2004 update of the SLK, while minor, was an improvement in several important areas, with a larger, longer frame offering more interior space and a much improved gearbox. In fact, many consider the 2004 SLK gearbox to be the finest Mercedes gearbox so far. Thanks to Mercedes getting the handling and feel of the SLK spot-on the first time around, there wasn't much else for the company to work on with the 2004 release. |
