The steady march towards cleaner streets picked up pace with the announcement of an expansion to the scheme that is set to provide electric charger points around the Gateshead and Newcastle areas of the North East England.
With a further injection of £2.9m, the joint venture between Regional development Agency One North and Nissan, which has promised to provide 619 points by 2011, will now be looking to provide 1,300 points by 2013. Points will be dotted around commercial and supermarket sites as well as on the roads of the North East, ensuring that electric car drivers are never far from a quick recharge.
