On the day of the 125th birthday of the motor car as we know it, German Chancellor Angela Merkel and Dr. Dieter Zetsche, Chairman of Daimler, Mercedes' parent company, fired the shots to signify the start of the F-Cell World Drive Challenge.
Three Mercedes-Benz B-Class vehicles kitted out with fuel cell drivetrains are now well into their 125 day challenge, which will see them navigating the world through four continents and 14 different countries across 30,000 kilometres with the aim of demonstrating the technical maturity of current fuel cell technology.
Dieter Zetsche was quoted as saying that this global tour shows that Mercedes-Benz has "sufficient pioneering spirit for at least another 125 years of innovation".
