MOT Changes Changed
01/02/2012
New data has caused a government rethink and back-down on proposed changes to the current MOT system, which would have seen the frequency of tests revised down to every two years instead of one.
The Vehicle Operator and Standards Agency (VOSA) believes that of the 35 million cars that went through their MOT between 2010 and 2011, 12.4% were incorrectly assessed – and on top of that, a total of 27.7% of vehicles had one defect missed.
Transport Secretary Justine Greening has announced that VOSA will be made to publish its research in order to improve the sector's transparency and that the government will also encourage garages to sign up to industry codes of practice. There will also be changes to the certificate to help motorists avoid clocked cars.
