And continuing on our green theme, the Paris Auto Show, which opened on October 2, is running with the slogan "The Future, Today", hinting at a focus on all things energy-saving and efficient.
Among others, models of note are:
Renault-Nissan Leaf - the fruit of the Franco-Japanese partnership, touted as the world's first entirely electronic car designed for real world requirements and available at an affordable price. It is set for release in Europe in early 2011.
Peugeot 3008 Hybrid 4 - the world's first diesel hybrid passenger vehicle, promising 74.4 mpg and CO2 emissions of 99g/km. Will arrive in several different models.
Renault Fluence Z.E - standing for "zero emission", this entirely battery-powered vehicle aims to 99 miles out of a single charge with speeds of up to 84 mph.
Ford Focus ST - not a hybrid vehicle, but according to Ford, the new "Eco-Boost" direct-injection turbo-charged engine will squeeze 20 - 25% better fuel efficiency than earlier Focus models.
Peugeot iOn - totally electronic and with an automatic transmission, this car is more about simple practicality than performance.
