Earthquake Shockwave Hits Japan Industry

Sales of new cars in Japan have plunged by 37% in March compared to a year ago. Not only have rolling blackouts caused a halt in manufacturing, but breakdowns in the supply chain and a shortage of parts also take part of the blame for falling profits.
In Toyota's case, even its North American plants have been hit, with overtime and weekend shifts cancelled because of the aforementioned lack of supply parts. However, the company has pledged to give over £3 million to the relief effort as well as supplying 50 vehicles to the cause.
Toyota's own sales fell by 46%, Nissan's by 30% and Honda's by 28%.
