Budget Targets Infrastructure
07/12/2011
Chancellor of the Exchequer George Osborne has made his 2011 Autumn Statement, which among the doom and gloom of Eurozone economic woes, also included details that are set to affect UK motorists.
Of particular note is that January's 2ppl fuel duty rise is to be eliminated, and August's 5ppl rise is to be lowered to 3ppl instead. Additionally, tax credits for R&D should give a lift to UK vehicle manufacturing.
UK Infrastructure is also set to receive a boost, with 500 rail, road and communication projects given the go-ahead. These include:
- A new link road from Manchester to Crewe as well as improvements to the A45, A454, M1 and M6.
- 50% decrease in tolls on the Humber Bridge
- Improvements to the M4 Bristol link, along with a bypass on the A380
- Upgrade of the A14 in East Anglia
- An evaluation of a new Thames crossing
- Improvements to the M4 in Wales
