Lexus is a relatively new company, having been founded in 1989. It belongs to the Toyota Motor Corporation, representing their luxury car line. Indeed, Lexus is currently the biggest seller of luxury cars in the US. The original Lexus project was developed in secret. Toyota wanted to create a car that could compete with contemporary luxury cars in the North American territory. What emerged was the Lexus LS 400. Thanks to its ergonomic design, high build quality, fuel economy and perceived value for money, the LS 400 scooped several awards. By 1990 it was the biggest selling luxury import in North America. Today, Lexus continues its reputation for producing high-quality cars, and takes special pride in its post-sale service. However, the biggest growth for the company has been its hybrid vehicles, which account for a quarter of Lexus' total sales to date.
