Checks Before MOT Testing
Just as you undergo health checks for your body, the Ministry of Transport, or MOT, requires you to acquire certificatation for the condition and safety of your vehicle. But unlike health checks, a MOT certificate is compulsory. Vehicle owners who do not have a valid certificate will not receive any tax discount and cannot legally drive their vehicles. The MOT will not issue a certificate if they find that your car is poorly maintained and/or is not fit to be driven on the road. Ensure your vehicle is in top condition when you take it in for testing.
When taking your vehicle to obtain its MOT, ensure that:
- The fluid levels such as the engine oil, coolant, brake oil, water and power steering oil are all filled to the recommended level
- If the tyres are worn out, either obtain retreads or replace them
- The suspension - if it has become slack you may have to replace it
- Your exhaust could be damaged due to rust or through normal wear and tear. If you find that your car is making too much noise, you may have to change the exhaust
- If you are looking for cheap MOT testing, you can book your vehicle MOT online
